Choreographer
Norayr Mehrabyan
Norayr Mehrabyan is a renown ballet master, artistic director
and creator of Barekamutyun National Dance Ensemble of Armenia.
Born in Yerevan, he is a graduate of Yerevan State Choreographic
School and later was invited to Leningrad to continue his dance
training under world renown choreographer, Honored Artist of
Russia and State Prize Laureate, Leonid Jacobson. Upon returning
home, Mehrabyan joined the National Opera Ballet of Armenia,
performing as a principal dancer, then later serving as a
director. For many years, he served as Headmaster at the Yerevan
State Choreographic School. His awards include “Honored Artist”
in 1976, in 2002, “Movses Khorenatsi Medal of Honor” and in
2006, the highest accolade of an artists‘ career, “People’s
Artist Award”, which was bequeathed personally by President
Robert Kocharyan.
Since 1994, Mehrabyan has worked with the Ani Dance Company,
taking the group to even higher levels of achievement. During
these past fourteen years, the Ani Dance Company has been proud
to enjoy a special relationship with him. His definitive talent
can be seen through the numbers he has choreographed especially
for the Ani Dance Company, such as “Loretsi Sako”, “Dle Yaman”
,“They Took my Love Away”, among countless others. In addition
to sharing his genius with the group, Mehrabyan has stated on
many occasions that he considers the Ani Dance Company his
adopted overseas dance company
